Ceremony is an interactive performance work for ten players and an undetermined number of dancers. It is intended as a non-specific religious ceremony in nine sections. Audience members will be asked to participate in the service, and you are encouraged to get involved in appropriate ways. At the end of the piece, please return any items you have been given during the performance.

Ceremony was commissioned by Linda Lamkin, and it was composed during the summer of 1994. It is approximately fifteen minutes long and in nine sections:

  1. Prelude
  2. Procession of the Sacred Object
  3. Placing the Sacred Object on the Altar
  4. Dance
  5. Appearance of the High Priest/Priestess
  6. Induction of the Unclean
  7. Unveiling of the Sacred Object
  8. Ritual Sacrifice
  9. Postlude
