Premiere: David Eby, cello, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN, February 27,
1991
Regicide was written in early 1990 for the cellist David Eby. Regicide is defined as the killing of a king. In some ancient societies, the practice of ritual regicide was an important part of the social/religious order. The most important factors involved were the new science of astronomy (which revealed the time of the king's demise) and the new society of the city-state (which required Order to control people who were not used to stationary co-habitation). Make of all this what you will. The piece is about ten minutes long.
